What We Do

With a mission to “build a community of informed and engaged leaders,” LNH gathers a select cohort of talented and accomplished individuals each year and provides them with an opportunity to learn about the complex issues facing our state, to connect with one another, and to serve their communities and our state in positions of leadership and responsibility.

Who We Are

The Board, composed of leaders from diverse regions and sectors across New Hampshire, provides strategic direction and ensures LNH’s mission to strengthen the state remains central. The staff brings professional expertise and enthusiasm to delivering an impactful program, fostering connections, and supporting alumni engagement.

Together, they exemplify the leadership LNH inspires—collaborative, forward-thinking, and committed to New Hampshire’s future.

How it Started

In 1989, at the invitation of then-Gov. Judd Gregg, a group of New Hampshire citizens began a two-year, statewide conversation about our history, traditions, and institutions. Across the state’s 236 cities, towns, villages, and unincorporated places, people gathered to ask: What makes New Hampshire a good place to live? And how can we ensure it remains so for generations to come?

The result was a 1991 report titled New Hampshire: My Responsibility, which offered a series of recommendations to strengthen civic life and community. One of those recommendations was the creation of a program to “increase civic engagement and strengthen communities through connecting and educating a diverse pool of engaged or emerging leaders about the state of New Hampshire.”

From that vision, Leadership New Hampshire was born. Since then, LNH has brought together 25–40 leaders each year to explore the people, places, and pressing issues that shape our state—fulfilling its mission to build a community of informed and engaged leaders.
